MasterCook - My Cookbook

MasterCook's bonus features like the Wine List are useful and easy-to-use. MasterCook Deluxe makes customization easy. Add your own recipes, directions, photos, important notes, preparation time, nutritional value and ratings to any of the recipes.

My Cookbook is the book set aside (default) for your own recipes—up to 12,000—but it can be easily broken down into separate volumes. All of the recipes include nutritional values. MasterCook Deluxe has a FAQs section, manuals, tips, email ,(email to blog) and even a user forum on Yahoo Groups. It comes with 8,000 recipes and there is plenty of room to add your own.

History of the Cookbook 

A cookbook is a chronicle and treasury of the fine art of cooking, an art whose masterpieces-created only to be consumed-would otherwise be lost. Athenaeus was by no means the earliest Greek writer on cooking; he mentions more than 20 authors who preceded him, one of whom, Archestratus, produced his masterpiece, Hdypatheia (Pleasant Living), in 350 BC.

Cookbooks came out in the mid 1700s in Colonial America. Recipes were once known as "receipts". It wasn't until the 18th century that cookbooks even began to look like what we have today. During the 18th century, cookbooks used in the United States originated in England. As the 19th century approached, an increase in sales of the cookbook started that continues to this day. Before the 1876 Centennial, over 1,000 cookbooks were published causing the authors to become quite popular. Female novelists such as Mary Randolph, distant cousin to Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Josepha Hale, author of Mary had a little lamb, even wrote a cookbook.

The MasterCook menu planner can help you plan breakfasts, lunches and dinners for an entire week. A drag and drop option would make this process easier. Once you have your plan, this program will generate a shopping list and even track the food you currently have in your pantry.

MasterCook instant menu planning generates shopping lists for single recipes or entire menus that can be printed out or downloaded to Pocket PC and Palm OS(R) handhelds. The shopping list will group your products by area in which they are usually found in the grocery store.

.mcd file and Laptop 

Create a print design you like on your other computer and save it. You can copy that print design to the laptop. The file will be in the MC Tools folder and have the *.mcd file extension. In the Type column of Windows Explorer, it will be described as MasterCook Layout. Just copy the file to your laptop in the MC Tools folder. Then open MC a press F5 to refresh your file list (it won't show up for you until you refresh files).
